Guide: Ryan Stefek hails from Billings, Montana and is probably the most well rounded guide we have. Ryan guides both wingshooting and fly fishing and has a sick passion for the outdoors and his hunting dogs. Ryan might be one of the funniest people I know and also the easiest going. Ryan is an avid fly tier, and when he isn’t guiding he is throwing streamers for big fish or chasing down birds with his team of German Shorthaired Pointers and Boomer his renowned brittney. Ryan has been hunting and fishing his entire life and been guiding for the past 10 years in Montana and Wyoming.

Our streamer fishing can be done on the same rod, or we can suggest a 9′ 7wt Rod with a floating or sink tip line. A softer action 9′ 5wt Rod for dry flies rounds out the requirements for a completely enjoyably time fly fishing in Wyoming.

Grey Reef Tailwater on the North Platte River: One of the Best Wyoming Fly Fishing Rivers
Welcome to the best fly fishing on the Lower North Platte River in central Wyoming. Below Grey Reef Dam a tailwater fishery exists known for huge trout, and light fishing pressure.
WYOMING FLY FISHING FLOAT TRIP
A Wyoming fly fishing float trip starts right here on the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River. This tailwater is home to wild rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout, all familiar breeds to your expert Wyoming fly fishing guide. Due to warmer winter water release, the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River stays open even in the dead of winter and offers great fly fishing in Wyoming year round. Flows at Grey Reef Dam range from 500cfs in the spring/fall to 3500cfs in the summer months. Stable flows at Grey Reef produce an environment rich in aquatic life. Scuds, midges and aquatic worms maintain these huge trout throughout the winter months. Hatches begin with spring baetis and continue into the summer months including yellow stone flies, pale morning duns, crane flies, tricos, and caddis. Due to their rich environment these trout are extremely healthy and incredibly hard fighting. Most of the trout caught at Grey Reef are in the 18-20 inch range with lots of girth!
It is no understatement when people say that Grey Reef is by far the best big rainbow trout fishery in the US!
